Contrapunctus 5
Monothematic mirror fugue, 4 voices, 4/4 beat, 90 bars

The theme in this piece is derived, inverted and rhythmically dotted from
the common theme. This variant theme reappears in Cp.6 and Cp.7. All the
themes in are set by stretti, that is, not a single theme is stated alone.
There is no obvious counter theme found.

The inverted response in bass is lead by the theme in alto.
Both the theme and the response stay within the extent of principal key,
however, the rule that tonic and dominant in a theme are interchanged
each other in a response is adherently observed.

As the music below shows, odd-beat sequence appears from bar 29
like Cp.3 and Cp.6 and is divided at the dotted lines.

Other than the mentioned above, imitations and repetitions of motif can be
found at the other parts, but not clearly enough to be called sequence.

Stretti by the theme start out at four different timings after bar 32, such
as two beats behind (from bar 32, 41), six beats behind (from bar 47, 57),
four beats behind (from bar 69, 77), and at a time (from bar 86).

As for the theme from bar 86, it will be explained later.

Stretti by the thematic fragments happen over four voices from bar 53, 65.

The one from bar 65 takes inversed form.

The original theme and the inverted are heard simultaneously in bass and
alto, while the counterpoints in soprano and tenor sound invert to the
themes respectively.

The music is over with two voices added (form bar 86 in alt and bass), to
finally six voices. This way of voice increase at coda can be also seen
in Cp.6, Cp.7 and Cp.11.
